Mike Richardson
I started painting seriously when I retired in 2019. I work mainly with oil paint and I have been painting mostly landscapes and seascapes. By joining the Broadstone Art Society, I hope to broaden my artistic horizons and exhibit some of my work.
Lonesome Hawthorne, Dartmoor, 2025, oil on canvas board, 35 x 25 cm
On a visit to Dartmoor, I came upon this tree, it was all alone on the moors and had been bent by the prevailing winds into this shape.
Rain over Old Harry Rocks, 2026, oil on canvas board, 35 x 25 cm
I often walk on the beach from Canford Cliffs into Bournemouth and from Alum Chine, there are some great views. This was taken in October 2025, it was an autumn day and the sky was magnificent.
New Bridge, Chapel Stile, Great Langdale, 2024, oil on canvas, 76 cm x 50 cm
This painting was inspired by a visit to the Lake District in 2023, the new bridge at Chapel Stile. The reflections were magical and I wanted to capture the peace and the tranquility of the scene.
Atlantic Wave, Cape Verde, 2024, oil on canvas, 100 cm x 50 cm
This painting was inspired by a visit to the Cape Verde Islands in November 2023. Each morning, I would go for a walk on Santa Maria beach on the island of Sal. There was always a cool breeze and the waves came rolling in from the Atlantic Ocean. The colour and the light were amazing as the waves crashed onto the sandy beach.
